The DOWA internship came at the perfect time after my master's graduation, offering me valuable industry exposure. Being placed at an innovative digital health company, allowed me to align my HR qualifications and research interest in employee wellbeing with real-world industry work.
As a Strategy Intern, I gained deeper insights into Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), identified gaps in current practices, and reflected on the role of well-being in the digital transformation era.
Beyond professional growth, I’ve built meaningful connections and truly appreciated the supportive and engaging environment DOWA created for us.

My DOWA internship was a transformative experience that allowed me to step beyond clinical practice and into the digital health industry. I gained valuable skills in UX and product design while contributing to projects that improved efficiency, scalability, and access to care for thousands of users.
I also explored how AI and large language models can be responsibly integrated into clinical practice, showing me how impact can be made both within and beyond the clinical platform. This experience has strengthened my confidence, broadened my perspective, and given me a clearer vision for my future in health systems and digital health.

My internship with DOWA was fulfilling in that, it not only gave me the opportunity to apply my school knowledge to real-world projects through the company I was at, but it also gave me a glance at what the African continent can be.
There is a lot of potential and avenues for growth as a continent, and the work done by DOWA, trying to connect students from the Diaspora to Africa connects these student's technical knowledge to work that will have a considerable impact in Africa, and by extension, the world.
